CycloneCenter Participation for March 2014

March 2014 saw the most monthly classifications since March 2013!! Also, Citizen Scientist baha23 set an all time record with 4610 classifications in a month.

We reached a milestone of 300,000+ classifications on March 10th! We’ll have a highlight of the classifier who made that classification soon.

One table that doesn’t change much is the top 10 all time classifiers. But this month, we have a new citizen scientist on that list: skl6284, who moved into 9th place.  However, FrederikeLisanne could move onto the all time leaderboard with more months of 700+ classifications.

This month was very active. Calbeam had 243 classifications which would have been 4th place in January but is only 10th this month!

For March 2014, we had 15,666 classifications of 531 storms from 638 citizen scientists.

Why was this monthly update so late? We receive weekly deliveries of data on Sundays, so we had to wait until Monday April 7th to complete the summary for March. Thanks for your patience.

I just got started classifying and its going fairly quickly (I am actually a meteorology student with quite a bit of prior experience) but I was wondering how I could see how many storms I’ve classified without having to manually record each one, so I could keep track of how I was doing for the month. Thanks!

Good question! When you are logged into, select “Profile” from the menu at the top of the screen. That should take you to a page that shows you your recent storms (with an option for your favorites). To know how many classifications you have made, multiply the number of images on the current page by the number of pages (at the bottom, you’ll see a list of numbers allowing you to see all the storms you have ever classified).

For instance, my profile page shows 12 images and there are 78 pages in my history, which is 12*78=936 images. This will be accurate to within a few storms. Thanks for asking and for classifying.

Also, we encourage Met. students to classify since you can start to see Meteorology in action, so tell your classmates!
